Inferallti Hussars Transport and Heavy Flamer Squad

A while back I started a new 30k Army based on the Imperial Militia and Cults army list for Horus Heresy based on the "Old Hundred" regiment known as the Inferallti Hussars. The army list allows for extensive customization in the form of Provenances of War that bestow special stats and bonuses usually in exchange for certain restrictions. On of the options is survivors of the dark age. For people unfamiliar with Warhammer 30k, it follows a period known as the Age of Strife which saw the technological achievements of the previous era largely lost. however, not all societies fell quite so hard and some remnants maintained more advanced technology from a bygone age. Rules wise this Provenance provides +1 to all units armour saves, representing more advanced armour. This rule also allows you to take rhino's and a Land Raider Proteus as a dedicated transport! Thematically, I wanted to add both to the army. I painted up a rhino a while ago, but kept putting off the Land Raider. Last week I finally managed to get to it.

I also painted up a heavy weapon squad. The army list allows you to field a base squad of 5 heavy weapons. The options include all the usual options for an Imperial Guard army with the addition of heavy flamers! With the survivors provenance, they get a 4+ save too. I used a 10 man squad of Forge World Solar Auxilia flamer section mounted 2 to a base.

I doubt this army would perform well against any of the Space Marine Legions, but that's fairly thematic. It sucked to be a normal dude fighting alongside superhumans.

Last Grenadier Squad for the 30k Imperial Militia

Here's the last Grenadier squad for the Inferalti Hussars. Like the last squad, these guys have been equipped with bolters. The bolters are from the Mark III marine box set and are much bigger than the ones for the Mark IV. This puts them at just the outside edge of suitability for the Anvil models. I can't imagine what they must weigh when fully loaded and the recoil must be a nightmare, but these guys will be facing Space Marines, so lasguns won't cut it! This squad was supposed to complete the army, but I ended up ordering a few more units (of course). The militia and cults army allows you to use heavy weapons squads equipped with heavy flamers and Land Raider Proteus as dedicated transports for grenadier squads. As such, I ordered one of those and a squad of Solar Auxilia with flamers (I'll put 2 to a large base). Might not get to them for a bit because I'm going to try and finish the rest of my Alpha Legion by the end of August.

Inferalti Hussars Grenadier Squad

It's been a while since I've added a unit to my 30k Imperial Militia army, but I've found the motivation to finish the last couple units I have for this army. If yop remember, I was working on an army representing the Imperial Army regiment, The Inferalti Hussars. they feature in the book Praetorian of Dorn and helped defend Pluto from the Alpha Legion. They are a regiment from the 'Old Hundred" which is made up of Terran regiments who fought with the Emperor during the Unification Wars. Rules wise the army list uses Provenances of War that let you customize the army. One provenance is "Survivors of the Dark Age" which allows the army to use Rhinos and Land Raiders and increases their save by 1. It's meant to represent an army that kept their more advance tech during the Age of Strife.

This is the fist of 2 grenadier squads I have left to complete. The models are form Anvil Industries regiments line. They fit in nicely with GW models, though they are a bit on the small side. This works out great standing next to Space Marines models as they make the marine look quite bulky. The only 'problem' with the AI models is the guns are small compared to GW. By small, I actually mean well proportioned to the model as GW guns are quite oversized. To fix this I gave the squad boltguns form the Mark IV marines set.

One more squad to go!

30k Militia Turrets

While Dallas and Greg have been pumping out models with regularity, my progress has been slowed by school being cancelled and at home learning g being implemented. This program has been a failure in my opinion as although  technology has allowed us to attempt remote learning, it is not yet capable of the task asked of it. Thankfully the school year is ‘officially’ done and I’ve been able to carve out a few hours of painting here and there. First up there s a unit of troops for my 30k militia force. Models are from anvil industry and are armed with lasrifles. The rules allow you to buy augmented weapons which add +1 to the strength of las weapons making these long range bolt guns. A bolt gun isn’t anything to get excited about when your fighting  World Eater Legionnaires swinging a chain axe at your skull, but it’s better than strength 3 I guess.
The Sargent is armed with a power maul and blast pistol for those pesky World Eater Terminators. Yikes!

I’ve also reorganized my existing Imperial Guard army to fit in with the 30k list. It’s pretty basic and would be used to add some fodder for the Traitor Legions. I purchased some new turrets for my Leman Russ tanks from Kromlech. The turrets fit perfectly and have almost every weapon option for the tank. I opted for the demolished, battle cannon and twin lascannon turrets. I added some Sons of Horus transfers to show off their new allegiance. I’m sure Horus will be considerate of their crews lives.

Analogue Painting Challenge X

Here are some of the models I've completed for the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge so far.
Militia Force Commander in Power Armour

Ork Deff Kopta - Puppets War Miniatures

Imperial Militia Brute Squad
I was hoping to complete a few more units for the Hussars, buy I've been painting a lot of red lately and may need a brief distraction.

Imperial Militia

I decided to post all my completed units thus far for my Imperial Militia army, The Inferaltii Hussars. They served the Emperor during the Unification Wars, Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. I've used infantry from Anvil Industry and vehicles from GW. I've also scavenged vehicles from other sources which are offered at a slightly better price point! Some of these units were completed during Curt's 9th Painting Challenge. I had hoped to add a few more units during the challenge but work and illness dashed those plans right at the tail end.

Here's the stuff from the challenge:
These represent Imperial Armada troops who will be brought in by the Hussars to operate the artillery. From Anvil Industry

Quad-multilasers and Laser Destroyer from Kromlech

Imperial Militia can be given special Provenances of war which allow units to have Rhino's

Grenadier unit with Laslocks

Reconnaissance unit with sniper rifles
For heavy support I painted a squadron of Leman Russ Battle Tanks and for transport an Arvus Lighter. The Forgeworld model for the lighter is far too expensive for what it is and looks like a Star Trek shuttle craft. I wasn't interested in it, so I picked up a much cooler model from Mantic Games to represent the Arvus. My only complaint with the Mantic model is they went with the tiltrotor for propulsion. I guess it doesn't fly through space.

Leamn Russ tanks with battlecannon and twin -lascannon

The Hornet from Mantic Games. It will be used as an Arvus Lighter.

The troop compartment opens, but I was lazy and didn't bother with painting it.

Imperial Militia

I've just started painting a new army for Horus Heresy based on the Imperial Militia & Cults army list. I'm using Anvil Industry's regiments for the infantry which are absolutely fantastic models. They are also fairly expensive and not really a cheap alternative to Forge World. The army is based on the Inferalti Hussars which are briefly mentioned in the novel, Praetorian of Dorn and are described as an elite unit that has been tasked with defending Pluto. They are described as having red and white carapace armor. This unit is the 'Reconnaissance Squad' and have all been given sniper rifles. The majority of the models in the army have heavier armor plates on the legs and arms and a fully enclosed helmet. Rules wise the army can be given Provenances which are basically army wide special rules. The 'survivors of the dark age' is pretty cool as it gives an armor bonus to all grenadier units giving them a 3+ save. They can also be given rhinos and Land Raiders as transports. The army operates quite a bit differently from the solar auxilia and lack a lot of their fancier equipment and transports, but the customization potential is massive.
