Leviathan Dreadnought for 30k Sons of Horus

The Warmaster is here to HELP. Leviathan Dreadnought, model by Forge World.

Another small 30k project completed - here is a Leviathan Dreadnought, painted in the colours of the XVI Legion Astartes, the Sons of Horus. This is a multi-part resin model from Forge World, ready to ensure The Warmaster is able to grind his enemies into dust help create good "green" jobs with his bold new economic plans.

Like all of the dreadnoughts, the armour is powered by a reactor system that drives the shields and motor units...and yet, somehow, still emits black exhaust smoke because...30k.

As the name implies, the Leviathan dreadnought is, well, "like other dreadnoughts but more". The basic concept is still the same - this is a big armoured suit, "piloted" by a near-dead remains of a Space Marine, greviously wounded in some battlefield encounter, and "honoured" by being placed inside to continue his service. This dreadnought variant is, however, more powerful than its "Contemptor"-type compatriots, and while it has the option to carry some powerful weapons, they lack the range and power of the weapons found on the whacky-looking "Deredeo" chassis.

Equipped for war. And conversation!

Among the many fun and nutty aspects of this design, one aspect that stands out it to me is what appears to be some kind of voice box/speaker, right below the armoured recess for the "head". I guess this machine's dialogue game is right up there with its fighting power? I expect the witty banter is a big help during Horus Heresy battles. Hilarious, very well done by the sculptors :)

"Leviathan Storm Cannon" - not much for range, but lots and lots of shots!

The Leviathan dreadnought is all about getting up close, and shooting or punching its enemies to bits. Most players running these things tend to equip them with close-combat-type armaments (giant claws and siege drills), but I still prefer the guns myself - so you see here the "Leviathan Storm Cannon" and "Cyclonic Melta Lance" (well done, Forge World Tomobola Of Weapon Names!). This beast also has Volkite Calivers mounted on its chest plate, and a set of launchers up at the top.

"Cyclonic Melta Lance"  - fun!

I painted this fellow in sub-assemblies - and I even managed to magnetize the weapon mounts, so I can add the whacky claws or seige drills at some later time. Given my ongoing struggles with magnets, I'm pretty chuffed about that - I only mixed up the polarities once! Not bad for my standards of model assembly...anyway, this ominous fellow will take his place on the battle line with the other fine fellows of the XVI Legion, and await the arrival of what is now generally referred to online as "Horus Heresy 2.0"...

That's all for now - thanks for reading!
