Im using 1:2400 as well - did you double the ranges and movement rates as they suggest in the rules?

Re; the ramming issue - I could see even in a 2 on 2 action I tested the rules with last night that it was likely to come up fairly easily when in close action. Has you had a chance to try using the command rating rolls to avoid it - as per Dallas' post - might give that a go.

Cheers guys - great reportHaroldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09578149243945614850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7369363918074860264.post-55301621196618131872012-07-18T11:08:15.592-05:002012-07-18T11:08:15.592-05:00Dave - my suggestion would be to leave the bases t...Dave - my suggestion would be to leave the bases touching, with the situation resolved once the next turn starts...one ship or the other will move off....Greg Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05090722688748673409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7369363918074860264.post-78305759563975244462012-07-18T11:06:23.787-05:002012-07-18T11:06:23.787-05:00Peter, I shall take a look at those rules. I like the command rolls and lack of bookkeeping of Coaling Stations.

The surface scale at 1/3000 is 10 cm. to the nautical mile. An opposed roll like Dallas suggests may be warranted for collisions, since the bases are almost 1/2 a mile wide.

What happens if both sides succeed and avoid a collision? Their ships' bases are still touching...DaveVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08629682074533048304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7369363918074860264.post-15828544251190886062012-07-15T17:21:10.855-05:002012-07-15T17:21:10.855-05:00Thanks for the scenario, Dave, and to all the Cons...Thanks for the scenario, Dave, and to all the Conscripts for a good time. I admit I played out of period by using "kamikaze" tactics to sink Russian cruisers. But the rules made me do it :-).Sylvainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15882378127853300453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7369363918074860264.post-69977096906695127522012-07-15T13:41:48.488-05:002012-07-15T13:41:48.488-05:00Thanks for running the game Dave. I agree with Dallas on the collisions, but they did manage to balance out Sylvain's hot rolling for the saving throws on his ships' armour (apparently the Japanese trialled adamantium in this period, unbeknownst to historians...)Greg Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05090722688748673409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7369363918074860264.post-30406900395233668402012-07-15T12:29:33.288-05:002012-07-15T12:29:33.288-05:00Great game, Dave - lots of fun had by all. One thing I think we'll also want to tweak in future is "collisions", which seemed to happen all-too-frequently considering the size of the ships' bases compares to the "sea scale"... perhaps when bases touch the captains roll their seamanship skill and if both fail, there is a chance of collision...Dallashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08816655312205569168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7369363918074860264.post-13818971103707166882012-07-15T08:55:35.778-05:002012-07-15T08:55:35.778-05:00Dave

Another good set of Pre-Dreadnought rules is Fire When Ready available as a PDF via A&A games.

Cheers
PeterPeter Douglashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14118894381672707297noreply@blogger.com
